Graffiti Artist Shot At?! Graffiti Towers

As the Graffiti Towers in LA gained popularity, more and more writers horde the building to find a spot to paint. Graffiti artists from all around the world have been traveling to the towers and so far only a small handful of people have been caught. When writers go out to paint, it’s important that we always stay aware of our surroundings, and we’re cautious of those around us, fellow graffiti artists or otherwise. Graffiti can be a dangerous way to live, with not only dangers from the law, but from the environment and other writers as well.

When it comes to the towers, you’re in an partially constructed abandoned building with all the dangers that entails, as well as security guards and cops, and ontop of all that, you have other writers that pose a danger as well. That could be what happened not too long ago when shots were heard coming from the towers. It’s speculated that two graffiti artists got into a fight but who shot at who isn’t the important part, the fact that shots were fired is the key element here. This serves as a perfect example of the fact that graffiti is a risk, and if you choose to do it, we’ll you sign up for these risks. Here at The Artist Block, we always advise people do graffiti legally, and the high danger is one of the reasons. In my personal experience, I’ve fallen through roofs of abandoned buildings, and I’ve been in plenty of generally unsafe situations that just about all graffiti artists find themselves in. When you’re in the graffiti community, and you’re getting up, these risks seem worth it, and they even seem to not be risks at all. If anything, these risks become badges of honor, and challenges to overcome. All of these risks add up to give each artist amazing stories to share with friends and fellow writers, but any sensible writer will tell you that the risks far outweigh the rewards. Now all that being said, the work here on the towers is a thing of beauty and historic for the graffiti community at large, but it certainly isn’t worth losing your life over.
