Legendary Graffiti Towers!
The graffiti towers have been tagged top to bottom at this point by some of the worlds largest crews, legends, and toys alike. Shaun, a filmmaker, captured some amazing footage of the towers and we made a video checking out some of the pieces on there. Now everyone for the most part did an amazing job, even toys, simply just for the effort of hitting the most famous spot in recent times.
With that said, what I’d like to talk about is the likelihood of people becoming legends from this spot. See, part of getting fame in graffiti is hitting unique, difficult spots, or not going above and beyond the limits of other writers in the area. Seen had already been a legend since the NY Days, however, when he hit the Hollywood sign, he gained even more fame.
In another case, Saber hit the LA River and did an incredibly large piece. He’s an example of someone who went above and beyond, while Seen is an example of hitting a unique, difficult spot. There are plenty more examples but I’m sure you get the point by now.
With the graffiti towers, while there are many obstacles in the way, all levels of writers are able to get up there. Everyone from toys to legends has hit the spot, so if an individual hits that spot they won’t stand out as Seen did. This means if they want to become really notable from this spot then their only option is to go above and beyond. Given the amount of artists going there, hitting one floor may not be enough as it could either go unnoticed among the other works, or it might get painted over. This means if you really want to go above and beyond you’d have to do a blockbuster that takes on multiple stories. This is what already famous crews have done as they understand this type of graffiti would be much harder for less prepared, or less skilled artists to go over. Seeing as most of the block busters are done by already known crews, I don’t think anyone is really going to stand out enough to become legends, but the spot as a whole is legendary at this point, and all those who partook are to credit for this amazing feat.
